Leighton Buzzard's multi-storey car park lift fixed - and repairs to library lift in progress
Leighton Buzzard's multi-storey car park lift is open again after more than half a year out of action – while repairs to the library lift are currently in progress.
In September, the LBO reported that the car park lift had been damaged for over six months – meaning the elderly, disabled, and families with prams faced a walk around the car ramps or a tricky climb of the stairs.

Meanwhile, works to repair the lift at Leighton Buzzard Library Theatre are currently under way – and are expected to be completed next week.
Cllr Steven Watkins, executive member for business, housing and public assets at Central Bedfordshire Council (CBC), said: "We can confirm that refurbishment works to the lift at Leighton Buzzard multi-storey car park have now been completed and the lift is back in service, improving accessibility for residents and visitors."

The car park lift had been damaged due to vandals – and cost CBC a whopping £36,985 (plus VAT) to repair.
Cllr Watkins said: "Working closely with Bedfordshire Police and other partners, early indications from our CCTV team and reports from partner agencies show a reduction in anti-social behaviour in and around the multi-storey car park.
"This is encouraging news for residents, businesses, and visitors, helping to create a safer and more welcoming environment in the town. We will continue working with our partners to build on this progress."
Providing an update about the library, he added: "The heating system is fully operational, and we appreciate customers' patience while these improvements are carried out."
