Labour Party members in Leighton Buzzard are celebrating after Pat Carberry won the St.George's Ward by-election for the town council.

The by-election was caused by the resignation of the previous Conservative councillor for the ward and postponed from last year.

Mr Carberry scored 350 votes against Conservative contender Adam Fahn who received 311.

Liberal Democrat Nigel Carnell came third with 99 votes while Antonio Vitiello, representing the English Democrats, received 30 votes.

The town council is now back up to its full quota of 21 members, with 13 Conservative councillors, four Liberal Democrats, two Independents and two Labour at the White House.
