Pop-up cafe goes down a treat in Cheddington, thanks to cake bakers Clare and Laraine

The Pop-Up Café was set for business with beautifully set tables, reminiscent of a traditional tea room, plus a touch of spring with small vases of daffodils.

There was a glorious display of sumptuous, deliciousness - cakes to suit all tastes, plus gorgeous coffees, hot chocolates and savoury treats. The prices were reasonable which made it all the more appetising.

The Pop-Up Café, held on Friday, March 18, started with a steady flow of visitors and rapidly grew to a healthy throng of people enjoying the great experience. There was also an area to keep young children amused and entertained.

One customer said: “It’s just what Cheddington needs.”

Owners Clare Cleland and Laraine Redding, both working mums, came up with the idea after chatting over a cuppa.

Clare is the owner of Clare’s cakes and Laraine has been baking her gorgeous cakes to order over the last few years.

The two women joined forces last year when they attended the Cheddington Food Fayre, where they tested a high end designer Christmas themed cake and treat stall, which was a success.

After months of planning the two decided to set their plan in motion and took the next step.

Laraine said: “We were chatting and saying it would be nice to have some where to go for a coffee in Cheddington.”

They decided to start the cafe at the Methodist Hall with its central location in the village. Clare and Laraine are looking forward to popping up again very soon.

Clare said: “We are going to look at the feedback we get on Facebook and decide where we are going to pop-up next. If the feedback on Facebook is good we hope to open the Pop-Up Café on a fortnightly basis to start with and we may then think about venturing to other local villages with the Pop Up Café too.”
