£1m pot to fill in road holes

A total of £1,091,000 will be spent over the next two years to improve problem patches on roads in Central Beds.

Mr Selous said: “I know that filling potholes and resurfacing roads is a very high priority for my constituents.

“I am pleased that even in these very challenging times the Government has been able to allocate additional money for Central Beds Council to mend our roads over the next two years.”

The funding has been allocated for each year – £724,000 to spend in 2013/14 and £367,000 in 2014/15.

Councillor Budge Wells said: “Roads affect all our residents and businesses and remain a key priority for the council so this extra funding will really help keep the road network at a good standard.

“The money will go directly to making road repairs and improvements that matter and we’re taking a more joined-up approach to get this done.

“This means that if we go out to repair an emergency pothole, for example, we’ll also look to do other less urgent remedial works in the same place at the same time.

“It’s about using our resources wisely and giving value for money while still getting the job done.”

Liz Kirtley said: “There’s an enormous one on Dunstable Road in Toddington near the junction with Princes Street.

“An HGV ban through Toddington would help.”

Becky Whitehall said: “The footpath along the park by Hadrian Academy needs sorting, and also the access road behind the houses along Poynters Road.”

Jo Rainbow said: “Clearly the Court Drive area needs lots of improvements still.”
