Share your flood knowledge

Residents affected by flooding are being asked to help the council identify problem areas by filling in an online questionnaire.

Central Beds is preparing a new Local Flood Risk Management Strategy, and are asking for residents to share their knowledge of historical flooding.

The strategy will help identify flood risk and how they can be better managed.

Cllr Brian Spurr said: “Local flooding knowledge is really crucial to this stage of the Strategy. We know that local communities and their councils are best placed to tell us about historical flooding – where and why it happens, what sort of information would be useful in those circumstances and what we could do to reduce the risk of localised flooding.

“We’re looking particularly at local flooding from surface water, groundwater and ordinary watercourses such as streams and ditches and once we have done this research stage, residents will be able to comment on the draft Strategy in the spring.”

The questionnaire is available on the Council’s website http://www.centralbedfordshire.gov.uk/surveys/Floodstrategy/flooding_strategy.htm

Residents can feed their comments through using this questionnaire, but a full public consultation on the draft Strategy will also happen in the spring, once more of the information gathering has taken place.

After the information gathering stage, feasibility studies will be run on different areas and suggestions and this will be incorporated into the draft Strategy.
