Snowfall caused by quick drop in temperature

A DRAMATIC drop in temperatures saw snow fall yesterday afternoon (Sunday) across Luton, Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard.

BBC weatherman Philip Eden said the depression that brought the rain had relatively mild air ahead of it, but a much colder north-westerly wind behind it.

“The temperature dropped from 8°C to 1°C in about half an hour,” he said. “As the snow became lighter it turned back to rain as the temperature edged back up to 3°C.

“It settled on Dunstable Downs and in Whipsnade, though nowhere exceeded 2cm in depth, and it quickly melted later in the afternoon.”
