'˜Spirit of Slapton' organises a country fayre

Their first project is raising money to restore the bells at Holy Cross Church and their inaugural event is A Real Country Fayre.

It will take place on the front field at Bury Farm Equestrian Village on Saturday, August 27 from 1pm to 5pm, when the fun will continue at The Carpenter’s Arms in Horton Road.

The Fayre will have bunting, hay bales and Morris dancers in addition to a raft of trade stalls showcasing local produce as well as live music, a games area and children’s corner which will include an animal petting area.

There will also be a display of classic cars and Harley Davidson bikes.

There’ll be plenty of refreshments ranging from traditional teas and cakes, courtesy of the Women’s Institute, to a bar with Pimms, prosecco and local beers – and a barbecue.

A charity auction will take place at The Carpenter’s Arms in the evening. Landlady Nicola Capel said she had been overwhelmed by the generosity of prizes donated by local businesses

Spirit spokeswoman Jayne Tardieu added: “It’s been a lot of fun organising the event.

“The group is so diverse in personalities and ages but that doesn’t matter – our passion is our community and raising money for the bells.

“The support we’ve received so far is amazing and this is only the first year.”
