Three fire crews rescue trapped driver in Hockliffe car collision

Three fire crews helped rescue a trapped driver after a collision in Hockliffe today.

The car was in a dangerous position perched halfway over a culvert with just its exhaust pipe keeping it in place.

Crews used an inflatable air mat to stabilise the car before rescuing the driver.

Leighton Buzzard Community Fire Station posted online: "Just after 11:30am, this morning we were called to assist our colleagues from Dunstable and Stopsley at a two car road traffic collision on Leighton Road, Hockliffe.

"One vehicle was left precariously balanced, with just the exhaust resting on a culvert.

"Some unorthodox stabilisation using an inflatable air mat kept the vehicle steady for us to carefully extricate the driver, who was then taken to hospital. Crews were back around 1:30pm."

An East of England Ambulance spokesman added: "We were called to Leighton Road shortly before 11.30am today to reports of a collision.

"We sent two ambulances and an ambulance officer and treated two patients at the scene.

"Both were transported to Luton and Dunstable Hospital for further assessment and care."
