Carnival chairman Mark Freeman said: “Totternhoe’s float was very clever and right on the theme of Around The World in 80 Days.

“In fact all the floats were very good this year – the Open section winner was the Wheatsheaf with Dogs for Good taking the honours in Walking.”

The summer sunshine brought out the crowds and Mark is hoping the profit will top last year’s record of £4,000. It will be split among charities suggested by local residents. The Shires Royal British Youth Band led the procession and drew so many compliments they will be invited back next year.

Mark said: “There was a fantastic atmosphere and people really enjoyed events in the arena – there was everything from zumba to circle dancing, and jazzercise to baton twirling with the Shooting Stars. It’s an opportunity for local groups to showcase what they do.

“Fair ground rides were also realistically prices so that families with kids didn’t go home totally broke.

“It really was a fabulous day - I think everyone wanted to come out and enjoy themselves after all that rain.”
