Lightning strike sets off roof fire at Stewkley home

Four fire crews are currently tackling a roof fire at a Stewkley home, believed to have been caused by a lightning strike

The blaze has caused 50 per cent damage to the roof of the two-storey detached house on Walducks Close, while there is also smoke and water damage to the first floor.

One appliance and crew from Winslow, one from Broughton, one from Great Holm and one from Leighton Buzzard are attending, along with two officers.

Firefighters are using one jet, two hose reels, two sets of breathing apparatus, ladders and a turntable ladder.

Leighton firefighter Pat Carberry told LBO that a crew from the station is still in attendance (at 3.20pm), while further details on damage caused are unknown.

The incident was first reported at 1.34pm.
