Victims of multi vehicle pile-up on A421 are named

The two people who died in a multi vehicle collision on the A421 on Tuesday have been named.

They were married couple Martin Spratt, 70, and Evelyn Spratt, 68, of Buckden.

The incident happened at around 2.10pm on the eastbound carriageway close to the A6 junction near Elstow. The road was closed for the remainder of the day and overnight.

The accident, involving four cars and two lorries, occurred just weeks after Adesola Olusoga, 32, of Kempston, and his young son Isaiah Olusoga, were killed in an accident along the bypass on Christmas Day.

The deaths have sparked calls on social media for safety measures along the notorious bypass.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “Three ambulance crews were dispatched along with an ambulance officer and two air ambulances.

“Despite the best efforts of all at the incident, two of the patients sadly died.”

A full collision investigation has been launched by Beds Police.

PC Andy Ralph from the forensic collision investigation unit is appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward. He is particularly keen to speak to those with dashboard cameras.

One man arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving has been bailed by police.
