VIDEO: Will umbrella company’s rain dance end the dry spell?

With the glorious weather of recent weeks you might think everyone would be smiling – not so!

Umbrella Heaven, Leighton’s online umbrella retailer, is relying on wet weather to get them through the usual lean times that typifies the summer months.

Crunch time was St Swithins Day. Perceived wisdom has it that if it rains on July 15 it will continue for 40 days, but if it doesn’t, the weather will stay dry for 40 days.

So with yesterday’s weather bone dry again, it looks like further tough times ahead for the Cherrycourt Way-based business. But with the forecast looking dry, warm and sunny, Umbrella Heaven managing director Rob McAlister, from Bramingham, Luton, is leaving nothing to chance. With recent sales figures plummeting to 60% of the typical level for this time of year, he has had his staff out in the car park performing a rain dance he choreographed himself.

Watch the video to see the dance being performed, and see the July 23 issue of the LBO for more on this story.
