Waterborne Walk cafe plan 'dead' says travel firm boss

The planning application for Units 6 and 6A in the shopping precinct, which currently houses Card Experience and Baileys Travel, was made to Central Beds Council by Savills on behalf of Waterborne Walk owners CPI Holdings.

Chris Bailey, owner of Baileys Travel, said: “We are not moving to a new location and we are not closing, business is open as normal.

“They approached us with the idea and asked if we would consider moving.

“I said no as we only moved here 18 months ago and spent a lot of money on the move, we are opposite Waitrose, this is the best position in town.

“Their response was if we pay for the move, would we reconsider, I said that would not make us any better off.

“They are not looking to move us far. I am disappointed they submitted the plans when they know that we have not agreed to moving.

“The plan is not going to happen without us moving, so it is dead in the water.

“Having said that I think it would be good for the town centre, but right now there is no incentive for us to move.”

Leighton-Linsalde Town Council is objecting to the plans to convert the two shops into a café.

Savills told the LBO they did not want to make a comment at this time about who they had potentially lined up for the proposed café.
