Luton were beaten 1-0 by promotion/title rivals Cambridge United in the FA Trophy third round on Tuesday and come the end of the season will it be a wasted Wembley opportunity or a blessing in disguise? Time will tell, writes Charlie McCann.

BetVictor make The U’s 5/2 second favourites to go all the way and lift the Trophy with Grimsby Town the 15/8 favourites; should Cambridge reach Wembley, it will mean they will have to play 26 games in the final 14 weeks of the season.

Advantage Town? The Hatters remain 8/13 favourites with the U’s 7/4 and 14/1 the field.

Luton host Wrexham on Saturday looking to make amends for a poor display in the reverse fixture when going down 2-0 at the Racecourse Ground.

BetVictor make Luton 7/10 favourites to exact revenge with The Dragons 21/5 and the draw 11/4 and, despite the midweek loss, John Still’s side are unbeaten in their last 19 Conference Premier games and should return to winning ways.

Hatters played a much changed side for both games with Cambridge and the attacking duo of Paul Benson and Andre Gray are likely to be reinstated to the starting XI.

Gray is 16/5 favourite to open the scoring and 4/5 ON to score anytime in the 90 minutes.

Luton’s defence has been the bedrock of their unbeaten run and John Still’s men are 6/4 to keep yet another clean sheet and the Hatters 2-0 correct score makes further appeal at 17/2 with BetVictor.

Cambridge travel to Halifax and Tamworth in the next week and they are 29/20 against the Shaymen with the Yorkshire side 15/8 and the draw at 12/5.

The U’s showed enough in both Trophy ties that they are in for the duration but I expect them to drop two points at the weekend.
