They earned another clean sheet against League Two Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday, following on from keeping Premier League Aston Villa plus Christian Benteke quiet on Tuesday night.

Griffiths said: “It’s a good sign, it shows solidity and that we’re talking better than last season. Perhaps we’ve had a bit of luck falling on our feet and knowing how we’re going to play positioning ourselves.

“It doesn’t matter if they’ve had 20 shots or zero shots, you’ll always take a clean sheet.”

Youngster Alex Lacey has been named as captain for large chunks of pre-season and Griffiths believes his influence is on the rise, while after joining late last season, the club’s recent week away in Portugal was ideal for Griffiths to fully integrate himself into the squad.
