Crow wants to lead the Hatters frontline

STRIKER Danny Crow believes places are still up for grabs in Hatters’ frontline for their Blue Square Bet Premier opener at AFC Telford on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

Crow was on target during Town’s 2-1 defeat to Arlesey Town on Tuesday night, his second goal in pre-season.

No striker has been in prolific form during the warm-up games though and manager Gary Brabin is keeping his options open over who will lead the line.

Crow said: “I think everyone’s still fighting for it (a striker’s berth).

“He’s (Brabin) not giving anything away. I’m the only one who played against Arlesey, but I’m happy to get the minutes and I’m still getting fitter and sharper.

“Personally, it was nice to score. It was a tap in, but a goal’s a goal. If called upon Saturday, which I hope I am, I’ll be ready to play.

“But if not, I’ll get my head down and carry on.”

For the majority of Hatters, they will be entering unknown territory on Saturday at the New Bucks Stadium, but not Crow, as he has played at the ground for former side Cambridge in the Setanta Shield in November 2008.

He continued: “When I played there, all the changing rooms got robbed, so I hope that doesn’t happen again.

“They’ve just come up and are a good team, but we’ve got to go there for three points, that’s what Luton Town fans want and that’s what we want.

“Telford will be up for it, but we’ve got to be strong and aggressive. Individually, we’ve got to think we’ve got the better players, so we’ve got to match their desire and hopefully win.”

Town start the campaign as one of the favourites for the title, along with big spending Fleetwood Town, and Crow has called on the Kenilworth Road fans to play their part throughout the campaign.

He added: “Fleetwood are spending money, York as well, but we’ve got to start well and build the confidence.

“We’ve got an away game and two home games, so we’ve got to take advantage of that. Luton Town being Luton Town, everyone comes here and wants to spoil the party.

“The fans are really important to the players. “They’ve got to get behind us and will always travel well, so the players have got to appreciate that and put in a performance for them.”
