Former Town favourite Steve Howard has left League Two Hartlepool by mutual consent.

Howard, 37 managed just three goals in 45 games after returning to Pools in 2012, but is a firm favourite at Kenilworth Road where he scored 103 times in 228 games before being sold to Derby for £1million in 2006.

He said: “Everything has been amicable.

“I wish all the players and staff well for the rest of the season, I really hope they can go on and have a successful campaign.”
