Football League decision safeguards Town’s youngsters from poachers

A POSITIVE response from football’s governing bodies means that Luton Town’s promising youngsters will be protected from clubs trying to poach them, writes Mark Wood.

Brentford and Peterborough have both been reported over alleged illegal approaches for some of the Hatters’ youngsters and head of youth Gregg Broughton revealed they will be eligible for compensation for any starlets who are tempted away.

Speaking on Friday, he said: “Luton Town have known from the outset that after two years outside of the Football League our ability to retain players would be affected due to Football League regulations.

“Although it was clear that funding from the Football League would stop as of July 1st, the issue that wasn’t clear concerned player registrations.”
