Hatters injury news: Lawless close to playing again

Alex Lawless could soon be back in playing action for the Hatters, manager John Still said.

He said the midfielder could get a runout for the reserve side after getting back into training.

Still said today (Friday): “He has just started training, but only a little. We will build it up during the next week, hopefully by the end of next week he will be training full out. He has been able to do a lot of gym work and bike work.”

He suggested there is a chance Lawless may get 15 minutes of action in next week’s reserve game at Bournemouth to assess his fitness.

Meanwhile Luke Guttridge will have the last of a series of injections next week but Still couldn’t say when he will be back in action: “He feels OK, but until he starts running we won’t really know.”

Paul Benson’s recovery is also on course and will start training after six weeks out. “He has got the boot off and he is bang on course to start training.”

But the manager reaffirmed a cautious approach: “When people have injuries we owe it to them to come back fit. I would sooner have them back one week later than one week sooner.”
