Hatters thankful freak storm was a brief one

Striker Andre Gray admitted that had Saturday’s storm lasted much longer Town’s game against Nuneaton might have been in danger of being abandoned, writes Mark Wood.

Moments after Gray had given Town the lead after the break, the players fled from the pitch as they were hit by a torrential downpour and thunderstorm.

Hatters’ hat-trick hero said: “If it had carried on for a few more minutes then it might have been (abandoned).

“Luckily it’s stopped and we’ve got through and we’ve won 3-0 and we’re top of the league.”

Late substitute David Martin revealed he had never experienced a mid-game stoppage like it in his career either.

The winger didn’t return with the others to the changing rooms, as he added: “I didn’t go back in the dressing room, I imagine the boys will have just kept themselves pumped up and.

“The job was to go out there and win the match and that’s what they did.”
