Town assistant hails Walker’s return

FLYING winger Dan Walker made a welcome return to action on Tuesday night in the Beds Premier Cup Final clash with Arlesey Town, writes Mike Simmonds.

The former Bedford Town youngster has been sidelined with injury since the squad returned for training, but was immediately into the thick of the action, bursting forward and almost scoring.

Assistant boss Alan Neilson, who was taking the match, said: “That’s what Dan’s about. He’s had a little injury down the back of his right leg, that’s cleared up now, fingers crossed, he’s had a few injections.

“He’s come on and almost scored a wonder goal to start with beating three or four players.

“That’s what Dan gives us, he’s got lightning pace and lightning quick feet as well.

“He’s still young, learning the game as well and he’s got 30 minutes under his belt.

“We’ll have another game for him next week and then he can push back to getting into the squad.”

Another youngster who showed his signs of progression was JJ O’Donnell who surely can’t be too far away from the first team squad this campaign.

Neilson continued: “JJ has been superb in pre-season.

“I thought in the first half he was playing really well.

“JJ was probably the most improved player at the football club last year. He just needs to get bigger and stronger and he’s been doing very well.”

Striker Danny Crow, who captained the side, felt the performance showed Luton have plenty of promising youngsters.

He added: “Both young lads Jerome (Jibodu) and Brett (Longden) looked comfortable.

“We’ve got some good young lads here.”
