Leighton draw Winter Series to a successful end in London

Katy Dixon dominated again in the mixed under 12s race, taking her sixth win from six races and a comprehensive victory in the series.

Bethany Morris took her fourth win in the series to secure the Female under 14s trophy for the second year in succession.

The club’s strongest turnout was in the ladies class, with Gina Guscott finishing second on the day, third in the series, and also the fastest female veteran for the series.

Fiona Barber’s best result of the six races helped her to fifth in the series closely followed by Amanda Morris in seventh.

Paul Stenning won the veteran male class on the day and finished in second place for the series, teammate Jay Haycock finished fourth in the series after excellent performances in the previous two races, only his absence for the last race costing him a top three finish. Bryan Handsley smiled throughout and scored points for the cub in every race, but the podium positions sadly evaded him this year.

Father and son John and Chris Harding took second place in the hotly contested Marathon canoe class with Nigel Dixon and David Shipway following them in fourth place.

Strong performances from another father and son pairing gave Mark and Tom Pickering fourth place in the touring canoe class despite missing two races.

Attention now turns to the second Hasler race of the season in Cambridge next with a strong turnout expected from the club, looking to gain qualification for the finals in September.
