Leighton's new formation pays off as they beat Old Merchants

A new formation paid dividends for Leighton Buzzard 2nds as they beat Old Merchant Taylor's 3rd 3-0 oin Saturday.

Buzzard came out of the traps quickly, using a new formation to force OMT back and it was only a matter of time until the deadlock was broken. Following a well worked short corner falling to the returning Ash Barnett who found the bottom corner.

After missing chances, the lead was eventually doubled when Man of the Match Stu Retford yet again picked off one of OMT’s aimless long balls and promptly fed David Jackson who found strike partner Barnett who in turn located the unmarked Josh Gale who finished with ease.

The opposition tried to impose themselves on Buzzard at the start of the second half however the well marshalled defence of Tim Bellamy, David Wavish, Marc Scott and Joe Giltrow kept them at bay with some strong tackling.

Whatever OMT threw at Leighton was negated and the opposition’s frustrations continued to grow.

But Leighton addied another goal to his season’s tally to make it 3-0.

A fourth almost followed when a committed Jackson dived headlong on the Vandyke beach looking to get a touch to a tantalising cross from the left.

The final whistle soon followed with the three goals and a clean sheet putting Buzzards seventh.
