A team weakened by the absence of star thrower David Burrell, and all but one of their regular jumpers, struggled in a very tight match at Hemel Hempstead as they finished with 163.5pts, behind City of Norwich, Dacorum & Tring and Wycombe Phoenix.

Star of the ladies team was undoubtedly Suzanna Wise, with four victories.

Amongst the men’s side, Jamie Potton-Burrell was in fine form in the throws, with 28.03m for third in the A discus and 29.16m in the B javelin, also for third. Grinsted was fourth in the hammer and third in the B discus.

New men’s team manager Peter Bridger is hoping some of the injured and missing athletes will return for an improved showing at the second match in Bedford on May 18.
