Stumped on team names

THERE’S no one still alive who would have remembered this match but we’re hoping that some cricket enthusiasts may be able to help identify the officials either side of the teams who attended the cricket week held in August 1895 in Aspley Guise.

History buff and keeper of records for Aspley Guise Cricket Club, Geoff White, is peerless when it comes to the history of the club.

Now living in Thomas Street, Heath and Reach, Geoff, 81, has spent years researching every detail of the club’s existence.

But he has been stumped by the men either side of the teams although he has been able to identify all the players.

Among them was Aspley’s OC Mordaunt who went on to play for Somerset.

Another attendee was Guy Jordan who, a year later, was a member of Britain’s first Olympic Games squad.

Aspley Guise played the Gents of Bucks during a cricket week which attracted teams from throughout the region.
