Knit and natter group in Leighton Buzzard helps make hats for newborns

In early January 2026, the Tudor Court Knit and Natter Group received an invitation to help a newborn hats project organised by Milton Keynes Hospital.

During January, we undertook to knit and crochet baby hats for the project. One special request was for a number of the hats to be red in colour so that the staff caring for the babies can quickly identify those needing extra care, other colours and patterns were also welcome.

On Thursday, February 5 our group met as usual and we brought together our contributions to the project. Running for three weeks, four members of the group managed to crochet and knit around 100 hats in varying sizes ranging from very small, small, medium, large, premature and newborn babies.

We have previously made hats, scarves, gloves for under privileged children in the area and Christmas toys for a Christmas appeal.

Our group meets every Thursday afternoon between 2pm – 4pm. We are always looking for new members to join us, to share ideas. If you don’t knit you can still come for the natter, tea and coffee.
