Leighton Buzzard Photographic Club: Wainwright's Coast to Coast Walk
Alfred Wainwright (1907–1991) was a fell walker and author, most famous for his work on documenting the numerous fell walks of the Lake District. But he also published the first guide to a long-distance footpath across Northern England from St Bees in Cumbria to Robin Hood’s Bay in North Yorkshire in his 1973 guidebook “A Coast to Coast Walk”.

Albert brought us his audio-visual (AV) presentation of his own experience of this 192-mile walk. An AV is a collection of photographic images with an added soundtrack of music, song, poetry, words, and/or sounds. Albert embellished his evocative landscapes etc with his own detailed narrative, some Beethoven, and some sound effects.
The first part of the presentation started at St Bees in Cumbria on the Irish Sea coast and headed east across the Lake District and the Pennines to the village of Keld in Swaledale. It included a diversion to Whitehaven.

The second part started in Swaledale and headed east through the Yorkshire Dales into the North York Moors and on to Robin Hood’s Bay in Yorkshire on the North Sea coast. It included a visit to Goathland (the “Heartbeat” village of Aidensfield on TV) and a trip on the North York Moors Railway.
