Local hospice highlights vital care during Children’s Hospice Week

“Children’s hospices are under increasing financial pressure, but the need for our services is greater than ever”

This Children’s Hospice Week (15–21 June), Keech Hospice is raising awareness of the specialist care and support it provides to children with life-limiting conditions and their families across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Milton Keynes.

Children’s Hospice Week is the UK’s annual awareness week for children’s hospices and palliative care services. It aims to increase awareness of the incredible work children’s hospices do, improve understanding of children’s palliative care and raise much-needed funds for children’s hospices across the country.

At Keech, support can begin before a child is even born and continues throughout every stage of their journey. The hospice walks alongside children and their families, providing care, comfort and creating moments that matter.

This includes families like Evelyn’s (pictured), who were supported by Keech Hospice and whose story has been shared as part of the charity’s Spring Appeal.

Keech’s specialist teams are there day and night, helping families navigate some of the most challenging days they may ever face. Through expert care and compassionate support, the hospice helps families make the most of the time they have together.

Liz Searle, CEO at Keech, said: “Children’s hospices are under increasing financial pressure, but the need for our services is greater than ever. With the support of our community, we can continue to be there for families when they need us most.”

The week also highlights the importance of community support. Keech Hospice is currently running its Spring Appeal, helping to ensure children and families can continue to access the specialist care they rely on.

Donations can make a real difference:

·         £10 could support a call to Keech’s 24-hour advice line

·         £28 could give a child the chance to play and simply enjoy being a child

·         £75 could provide specialist nursing care

What you can do to help
This Children’s Hospice Week, Keech is encouraging people to support their local hospice in whatever way they can, be it through donating, considering volunteering opportunities, or simply helping to raise awareness of the vital role children’s hospices play in communities.
