The events will mark the 15th anniversary of the end of the Iraq War, known as Operation TELIC, and will give the local community an opportunity to come together in reflection, recognition and remembrance.

Two gatherings will be held on the day. The first will take place at 11:00am in the Memorial Gardens, Linslade, followed by an evening commemoration at 7:00pm in Church Square, Leighton Buzzard.

Both will include prayers, an act of remembrance and the laying of wreaths, honouring all who served during Operation TELIC, those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and the families who supported them throughout the conflict.

The branch is particularly keen to reach local veterans who served in Iraq, as well as families whose lives were shaped by the conflict. Residents who simply wish to show their respect and support are also warmly encouraged to attend.

Following the evening event, attendees are invited to gather at the Royal British Legion Club, where there will be an opportunity to reflect, share experiences and come together as a community.

Branch Chair, Major (Retd) Mike Lovell, said: “Operation TELIC had a profound impact on many service personnel and their families. This anniversary is an important moment to recognise their service and sacrifice, and to ensure their contribution is remembered here within our local community.

“We would especially like to hear from local veterans who served during the Iraq War. Whether you wish to attend in uniform, with medals, or simply stand quietly alongside others who understand, you will be very welcome.”

The Royal British Legion Leighton Buzzard Branch hopes the occasion will provide a meaningful moment of recognition for those connected to Operation TELIC, while reminding the wider community of the importance of remembrance beyond the traditional November commemorations.

All are welcome to attend.
