OPEN presents Fred Everything in Milton Keynes - Sunday 3rd May
The aim is to build something sustainable with several parties a year, not just one-off events.
For many in Milton Keynes, seeing internationally recognised DJs usually means travelling into London. OPEN is a new local event series aiming to change that by bringing high-quality house music back to a city that once had a strong dance music identity, and rebuilding a scene that has largely disappeared over the past 20 years.

OPEN is a house music night based in Milton Keynes, a place that previously played a pivotal role in the evolution of UK dance music through venues like The Sanctuary and large-scale events at various spaces such as the Winter Gardens. Sadly as with many regional areas of the UK, that scene has largely disappeared over the past two decades. The project has been built from scratch in that environment. It’s self-funded and run by a team with over 30 years of experience, but it's deliberately not positioned as a throwback or heritage/club classics night. Instead, the focus is on building something current and raw: programming artists like Giles Smith (Secretsundaze co-founder), Atjazz and Jimpster (Freerange Records), all presenting underground house music globally in its many forms with consistent care, respect & experience. The aim is to build something sustainable with several parties a year, not just one-off events. That foundation makes it possible to bring in international artists like Fred Everything (Lazy Days Recordings), who headlines the next event on Sunday 3rd May and is in the UK for the event between a South African & European tour. Fred Everything is a globally respected DJ and producer with over 25 years in electronic music, known for an extensive catalogue of more than 250 releases and a career built on high-level collaborations, remixes and international touring. His remix work spans both underground pioneers and crossover artists, including Curtis Mayfield, Jazzanova, Dennis Ferrer, Derrick Carter and Groove Armada, alongside unofficial edits for artists like Erykah Badu and Outkast. He has also collaborated widely across his own projects, working with names such as Roy Davis Jr., N’Dea Davenport and Tortured Soul. As a DJ, he has performed worldwide, holding residencies in Montreal and playing regularly at key venues like Fabric (London), Smart Bar (Chicago) and Space (Ibiza), as well as major festivals including Coachella and Igloofest. Alongside this, his label Lazy Days Recordings has become a respected platform for artists including Atjazz, Shur-I-Kan and Ian Pooley, further cementing his role as both a curator and contributor to the global house music scene. For this party, OPEN also moves into a new venue, The Loft space above the Rumble Rooms in central Milton Keynes, installing their own sound and production, alongside a shift to an earlier running time—part of a broader attempt to rethink how grassroots events operate. Ashley Roberts, OPEN's co-founder (and Leighton Buzzard local), explains: “We were lucky to experience dance music at its peak in the late 90s and early 2000s, spaces that were genuinely formative and had a lasting impact on our lives. That kind of experience isn’t as accessible now, especially outside the major cities. OPEN is about taking that inspiration and updating it — focusing on quality over quantity across everything we do, from sound and production through to the DJs we book — and trying to build something meaningful for a new generation, in a place that doesn’t usually get it.” The wider story is about trying to rebuild a local scene in a place where it’s faded, and doing it in a way that’s intentional and built to last.
