RBL Band to celebrate Armed Forces Week with concert

June marks Armed Forces Week, a national moment when villages, towns and cities across the UK come together to honour the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces. The week recognises not only our Regular personnel, but also the many civilians who volunteer their time and skills as part of the Reserve Forces.

Each year, one location is chosen to host the national “Main Event”. For 2026, Rushmoor Borough Council will take the lead, with major celebrations taking place on Saturday 27 June in Aldershot — the historic home of the British Army — and Farnborough, renowned for its air show and its place in British aviation history. Visitors can expect a weekend of military parades, arena displays and live music.Across the country, smaller community events will run throughout the week of 20–28 June, ensuring that Armed Forces Week is marked at every level.

Leighton Buzzard has long held a close association with the Armed Forces. RAF Stanbridge was once based in the town, while RAF Henlow, RAF Halton, Chicksands, and Military Headquarters Northwood all sit within easy reach. The town continues to be home to many serving personnel, veterans and their families, and the Leighton Buzzard Branch of the Royal British Legion remains a strong and active presence in the community.

In 2024, Leighton Buzzard became home to The Bedfordshire Band of the Royal British Legion, a wind band made up of musicians from both military and civilian backgrounds. Over the past two years, the band has become firmly embedded in local life, supporting civic events, charity concerts and community celebrations across the region.

This year, the band has chosen to honour Armed Forces Week with a special concert. The Armed Forces Day Concert will take place at 7pm on Saturday 20 June 2026 at All Saints’ Church, Leighton Buzzard.

The band will be joined by The Deputy Lieutenant of Bedfordshire and The Deputy Mayor of Leighton‑Linslade. Band President Cllr Mark Freeman and Vice‑President Cllr David Bligh will also be in attendance.

All ticket sales, along with proceeds from a raffle on the night, will support two military charities:

Rock 2 Recovery. The RBL Welfare Fund for the Bedfordshire area.

Tickets can be purchased in advance via TryBooking:

or on the door on the evening.

Music has always played a vital role in military life. Historically, bandsmen and women have served not only as musicians but also as stretcher‑bearers and first‑aiders during times of conflict. That tradition of service and support continues today.

Audiences can expect a varied programme including traditional marches, film and television themes, and uplifting pieces chosen to honour, celebrate and inspire.

The evening promises to be a fitting tribute to the men and women of our Armed Forces — past, present and future.

The Bedfordshire Band of the Royal British Legion looks forward to welcoming the community for what promises to be a memorable and meaningful occasion.
