Both cancer survivors, Patricia and Hilary have been the nucleus and driving force of the group for several years.

The group meets each Friday from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Salvation Army Hall, Lammas Walk and offers support to sufferers of any type of cancer.

In 2015, the group celebrated its 10th anniversary and continues to go from strength to strength, providing tremendous support and encouragement to anyone attending.

A council spokesman said: “This ‘Title of Dignity’ is a prestigious award reserved for the truly deserving.
