JamCrackers, a business IT support service based in Sparrow Path, held an event to raise funds in support of Autism Bedfordshire, their chosen charity for 2016.

Staff held a cuppa and cake morning on Thursday, April 7, during Autism Awareness Week which proved a fantastic success, with more than 70 people from the community attending. Sabrina and Richard Latimer, of JamCrackers, said: “We were overwhelmed by the support we received on the day and we raised an incredible £898 for Autism Bedfordshire.

“The highlight of the event was raising awareness of autism in the community and much needed funding for the charity.

“We would like to thank everyone who came along on the day, in particular those who contributed towards the event’s success by donating prizes for the raffle and we would like to thank Sandhills Community House for the use of their facilities and their help on the day.”

Autism Bedfordshire is an independent charity which relies entirely on grants and donations for income to provide exciting activities for children, young people and adults with autistic spectrum conditions, including their summer activity schemes, Saturday morning Loads of Autistic Fun groups, and adult skills and social groups.

These activities and groups allow individuals to enjoy the kinds of social, educational and life experiences that most others have, and also they provide much needed respite for their parents and carers.

Claire Thompson, from Autism Bedfordshire, said: “Without the services Autism Bedfordshire provides, many of the families we support would find it quite difficult to cope with the stresses that living with someone with autism brings.

“Therefore, the monies raised from today will make a real difference to the support that Autism Bedfordshire can give to these families. I would sincerely like to thank JamCrackers for organising this fantastic event.”
