15% rise in allotment fees proposed for Leighton Buzzard and Linslade

Allotment fees are set to go up by 15 per cent if proposals are approved by Leighton-Linslade Town Council.

A five per cent increase in fees has already been approved for 2026/27 – but the council says that does not go far enough to cover the increase in operational costs going forward.

It is now proposing to increase the annual fee from April 2027/28 by 15 per cent for both full and half plots. This equates to £7.65 for full plots and £3.83 for half plots, which is says will boost revenue by £1,087.62.

The proposals are due to be discussed at a meeting of the Grounds and Environmental Services Committee at The White House, Hockliffe Street, Leighton Buzzard, on Monday, December 1. The meeting starts at 7.30pm.

The council’s grounds and environmental services committee will also discuss the introduction of a rubbish clearance service to support new tenants at allotments at both Alwins Field and Weston Avenue, which are nearly at full capacity.

Security is also to be improved with a new pedestrian gate to be installed at Weston Avenue.

The committee has also received a report relating to ageing composting toilets installed more than 10 years ago at the allotment sites at Weston Avenue and Alwins Field. It’s recommended to replace these with chemical toilets to ensure facilities are available for allotment tenants.
