‘Go out with a bang’: Organisers gear up for possible final Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard Truck Convoy

The organisers behind a charity truck convoy through Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard have vowed to make this year’s event the best one to date, as questions remain about its future.

For the 11th year, hundreds of trucks will travel from St Albans through Dunstable, ending in Leighton Buzzard, raising funds for two charities along the route.

Organiser Graham Munt said this year’s convoy could be the last.

He explained: “This one is probably going to be the last. But our plan is to go out with a bang.”

Around 150 trucks will come from across the country for the event on June 13, starting at the Hertfordshire County Show at 10am.

More than £250,000 has been donated to Scotty’s Little Soldiers and the East of England Ambulance Service over the years. And Graham hopes another £25,000 will be raised next month.

He said: “Nobody gets paid to do anything in this event. We have five live bands there who all donate their time.

“These lorries do eight miles at a gallon… and they come in from all over the country all at their own personal cost.”

Graham urged the community to come out and support the event: “It’s just nice to have them outlining the streets… the more the merrier.”
