Leighton Buzzard theatre school launches new classes for home-schooled pupils
The Leanne Hughes Theatre School (LHTS Hub) has launched a new daytime performing arts programme for home-educated and ‘flexi-schooled’ young people.
A trial held last on Sunday (October 18) welcomed both beginners and experienced dancers with teaching adapted to suit different ages and abilities. The class featured all areas of dance tuition with dance-led musical theatre along with friendly team-building activities.
Prospective members took part in a full day of specialist dance, dance-led musical theatre and stage performance training.
Leanne Hughes, principal of Leanne LHTS in Leighton Buzzard, said: “Having run LHTS since 2002, I’m excited to introduce this next chapter: daytime dance and musical theatre training for local home-educated and flexi-schooled children.

“Following a successful trial our Junior Company for ages six to 12 starts on Wednesday, November 4, combining dance, creative projects, confidence-building and friendships."
Going forward musical theatre sessions will focus on dance, character and performance, with no singing tuition.
Separate Junior and Senior Companies are planned, subject to enrolment numbers.
LHTS has a longstanding place in the town, with recent successes including a pupil being cast as Matilda on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing and another’s role in Les Misérables. Alumni include professional performers such as Cordelia Braithwaite and Ivano Turco.
The school, based at LHTS Studios in Grovebury Road, is Leighton Buzzards' largest independent theatre school, offering classes in ISTD ballet, tap, modern as well as jazz and musical theatre classes. Adult classes in ballet, tap and modern are also available.
Children are welcome from three years old, and adult classes are also held weekly.
Leanne was a full time pupil of Sylvia Young Theatre School before training at Laine Theatre Arts, graduating with three diplomas in addition to passing her Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing Associate teaching examinations in Ballet, Tap and Modern with Distinction. This is where she found her love of choreography, before finally realised her dream of becoming principal of her own highly acclaimed theatre school in Leighton Buzzard.
