Visitors hooked by pirate themed holiday fun at Leighton Buzzard Railway

Pirates stepped away from the high seas to take on hordes of visitors armed with water pistols on the tracks at Leighton Buzzard Railway.

It was all part of a special August bank holiday event to get young and old alike hooked in to enjoy a treaure trove of fun activities.

A spokesperson said: “August Bank Holiday weekend saw another highly successful event at the Leighton Buzzard Railway when a Pirate Attack was repelled by large numbers of visitors armed with water pistols. Volunteers and visitors alike in full costume went in full trains to Munday’s Hill where the Pirate Ship lay in wait. Great fun was had by all, and plans are already afoot should there b another attack next year.”

The venue’s next attraction on Sunday, September 6, is an end of school holidays treat, with Bluey making a return visit to the railway, with non-stop special train journeys to Stonehenge Works where visitors can meet her.

Then looking ahead there’s a steam gala on October 24 and 25, and a host of spooky goings-in on October 31, with Halloween activities at both Page’s Park and Stonehenge. And for an extra dose of scaring and a bit more sugar the railway completes its regular running season on Sunday, November 1 with further seasonal fun and games.

The station will be creepily decorated and volunteers will be in costume to welcome visitors who are encouraged to dress up for the occasion – witches, wizards, ghouls and ghosties will find themselves at home.

“More surprises await on the day so come along and celebrate our end of season spooktacular event.”

In the meantime take part the railway’s Junior Railway Club Day on September 27, when members will be in action taking over (or shadowing) different roles required to run the railway.
