Peter Kay has rescheduled his cancelled Dance For Life tour two years later - here’s how to get tickets

Lancashire comedian Peter Kay will return to the stage for another series of huge fundraising nights.

In 2012, Kay set a new Guinness World Record for the most successful stand-up comedy tour of all time after playing to 1.2 million people.

His long-awaited return to the stage was then set to come in 2017, until family issues forced both his stand-up shows and his hit charity event, Dance for Life, to be cancelled. The latter is now back with a bang for 2020 – here's everything you need to know.

What is Dance For Life?

Dance For Life is a three-hour dance-a-thon which raises money for Cancer Research UK.

Since it began in 2016, Dance For Life has sold over 75,000 tickets for shows in 14 different venues across the UK.

Peter Kay will be manning the turntables as the DJ for the full-night, blaring out non-stop, floor-filling tunes to keep people up and on their feet all through the night.

Kay has previously played an instrumental role in raising money for Comic Relief, starring in the music video for Tony Christie's song Is This The Way To Amarillo? in 2005, and then recording a cover of The Proclaimers’ famous anthem, I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles) in 2007.

Two years later, he recruited beloved animated characters like Thomas the Tank Engine and Bob the Builder to form Peter Kay's All-Star Animated Band on behalf of Children in Need.

Kay and Susan Boyle then put together a version of the song I Know Him So Well for Comic Relief in 2011.

In September 2017, the comedian then opened the We Are Manchester benefit concert – the first performance to take place at the Manchester Arena following the terrorist attack.

Why was the tour cancelled?

In 2017, Peter Kay was about to embark on his first stand-up tour in eight years when he was forced to cancel due to “unforeseen family circumstances.”

His upcoming Dance for Life performances were cancelled alongside the stand-up gigs, with Kay issuing an apology to fans while explaining, “I'm sure you'll understand that my family must always come first.”

When is it happening now?

Dance For Life will return for its 2020 edition with DJ Peter Kay back in his rightful place, spinning records throughout the night.

The following shows have been scheduled:

April 10 and 11, Manchester Central

May 8 and 9, Liverpool Space by M&S Arena

May 29 and 30, Alexandra Place, London

Where can I get tickets?

Tickets are £28.50 and can be bought individually or by groups at the event's Just Giving page from Friday 28 February 2020.

The same page can also be used by dancers who are looking to sign-up and get sponsored, helping the event to raise even more money for charity.

Fancy dress is highly encouraged, although not mandatory - Kay himself has stated that "all people have to do is turn up and dance.”
