Former fans’ favourite Michael Spillane isn’t on Town boss John Still’s radar just yet after his release from Southend United, writes Mark Wood.

Spillane, 24, is available on a free following his release by Southend United and is remembered fondly by Luton fans after helping the Hatters win the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy in 2009.

On the news of his departure, he tweeted: “Not going to be a Southend player next year. All the best to the boys they are a great bunch and I’m sure will be pushing for promotion.”

Spillane scored three goals in 38 appearances during his time at Kenilworth Road and Still, who had the defender while in charge at Dagenham & Redbridge, said: “I had Mickey at Dagenham, but I haven’t really done anything in that area at the moment.”
