Packed programme of Great Big Green Week community events returning to Leighton Buzzard in June
This June, everyone is encouraged to come 'Together for Good' by taking part in local events across Leighton Buzzard, as the town celebrates its fourth year taking part in Great Big Green Week, the UK’s largest community movement for nature and climate.

Running throughout June 2026, Great Big Green Week brings together communities, schools, businesses, faith groups and local organisations across the country. This year’s theme, Together for Good, highlights how small, local actions can add up to meaningful change.
A grassroots programme shaped by local groups

Leighton Buzzard’s programme — coordinated by a small network of local volunteers and community groups led by Totally Leighton Buzzard — begins on Thursday 4 June at 7.30pm with a free community screening of The People’s Emergency Briefing at the Library Theatre. All welcome. Bookings open now at: https://centralbedfordshire.ticketsolve.com/ticketbooth/shows/873686062

“We want as many people as possible to feel part of this”
Edwina Osborne from Totally Leighton Buzzard who coordinate the events programme said: “Totally Leighton Buzzard are organising and taking part in Great Big Green Week because small, local actions are where real change begins. Its about creating grassroots events that make climate and nature feel close to home. Great Big Green Week is about helping connect people with simple, hopeful ways to care for nature — from film screenings to foraging, talks and the Repair Café and more. We hope it will make climate and nature feel more accessible and more like something we can do together as a community. We hope it will spark conversations, connections and small changes that add up. We would love as many local people as possible to come along and join us in one or more of these local grassroots events".
Great Big Green Week - a local and national initiative
Great Big Green Week is a wonderful way to bring the community together locally – not just to understand the challenges faced by climate change, but to take positive action and celebrate everything that makes Leighton Buzzard such a great place to live.
Its also an opportunity to be part of a wider national initiative. Many other local towns such as Tring and Bedford organise a similar locally led programme of green themed events. In 2025, 1.2 million people took part in Great Big Green Week across more than 5,800 events in the UK, with one‑third of participants completely new to climate and nature activities. This year, the aim is to reach two million people and continue to inspire community action.
Great Big Green Week is facilitated nationally by The Climate Coalition, the UK’s largest group of organisations working on climate and nature, whose members include the National Trust, WWF, the Women’s Institute, Oxfam, the RSPB and The Salvation Army.
