Two historic Leighton Linslade swimming clubs unite at the town's new leisure centre
"This is a hugely exciting moment for swimming in Leighton Linslade”
Swimming in Leighton Linslade has entered an exciting new chapter with the launch of Leighton Linslade Swimming Club (LLSC), following the opening of the new Leighton Leisure and Community Centre on Saturday 27 June.

The creation of LLSC marks a landmark moment for the local swimming community, bringing together two long-established clubs - Linslade Crusaders Swimming Club and Leighton Buzzard Swimming Club - to form a single, ambitious organisation ready to make full use of the town's new aquatic facilities.
The new Leighton Leisure and Community Centre, features an eight-lane, 25-metre competition pool with spectator seating providing an exceptional environment for swimmers of all ages. LLSC will provide the next step for swimmers moving from swim classes to taking their first steps into club swimming through to competing at county, regional and national level.

Steven Knibb, Chair of Leighton Linslade Swimming Club, said: "This is a hugely exciting moment for swimming in Leighton Linslade. Two proud clubs with rich histories have come together with a shared vision: to be a competitive swimming club that develops confident, skilled and resilient swimmers through high-quality coaching and a progressive training pathway aligned with Swim England's commitment to excellence and wellbeing.
Naomi DeVoogt, Vice Chair of the club, added: "We are committed to providing an inclusive environment where our members can thrive, not only as athletes but as individuals. We want every swimmer to feel supported, valued and inspired to achieve their potential both in and out of the pool."
A Union Built on Heritage
Both Linslade Crusaders Swimming Club and Leighton Buzzard Swimming Club bring decades of competitive success, community spirit and volunteer commitment to the new organisation.

The merger combines extensive coaching expertise, a strong volunteer network and a passionate membership base, creating a sustainable platform for future growth. Members from both clubs have been warmly welcomed into LLSC, with training programmes and club activities transitioning seamlessly into the new structure.
Historic Launch Weekend
The inaugural weekend at the new Leighton Leisure and Community Centre proved a memorable occasion for swimmers and families alike.
Activities began at 7:00am on Saturday morning when Foundation 1 swimmers became the first LLSC members to train in the new pool, marking the beginning of a new era for the club.

The official opening celebrations featured Olympic hurdling legend Colin Jackson CBE and two phenomenal Paralympic swimmings stars who triumphed at the Paris 2024 Games: multi-gold medallist Maisie Summers-Newton MBE, and Olivia Newman-Baronius, who captured both gold and bronze medals on her Paralympic debut. Following the proceedings, Maisie and Olivia joined the LLSC County Development squad for a special training session. The Olympians generously shared their time and expertise, allowing swimmers to view their medals and signing their shirts and bottles.
By the end of the weekend, almost all LLSC club members had experienced the new facilities, with overwhelmingly positive feedback about the quality of the pools and the atmosphere of their new home pool.
Looking Ahead
Leighton Linslade Swimming Club will offer a comprehensive pathway for swimmers including competitive squads, swimmer development programmes, junior swimming and Masters swimming opportunities.

The club is actively welcoming new members and remains committed to making club swimming accessible, enjoyable and inspiring for swimmers and families across Leighton Linslade and the surrounding communities.
Steven Knibb added: "We want every child and every family in our community to know that LLSC is here for them. Whether you're taking your first steps in club swimming or striving to achieve county, regional or national qualifying times, there is a place for you with us. We would love you to come and be part of this exciting new chapter."
