Sprint ace Harry to star at Flitwick Leisure Centre’s 10th birthday celebrations

The centre, run by award-winning operator Everyone Active on behalf of Central Bedfordshire Council, will offer a variety of free activities from 10am-4pm.

Harry, who has appeared on a host of BBC shows in recent years, is a sprinter who has won medals at each of the past three Commonwealth Games, including gold at Birmingham 2022 and Gold Coast 2018.

He is also a three-times gold medallist at the European Championships and is an Elite athlete on Everyone Active’s Sporting Champions scheme, meaning he helps to support up-and-coming athletes in Central Bedfordshire and beyond to achieve their sporting potential.

Harry will be meeting the public, signing autographs and having pictures taken on the day, with official signing sessions taking place from 11am-12 noon and 12.30pm-1.30pm.

Among the free activities will be trampolining, soft play and bouncy castle, taking place in the sports hall from 10am-3pm, alongside face painting from 10am-4pm.

A mixture of family swim, public swim and lane swim will be on offer between 12 noon and 4pm and table tennis will take place in Studio 1 from 12.30pm.

Also on offer are jiu-jitsu and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, while squash is available from 8am-8pm and there will also be local business stalls in reception.

Gary Foley, Everyone Active’s contract manager, said: “We cannot wait to welcome the local community to Flitwick Leisure Centre to enjoy a huge range of free activities and celebrate the site’s 10th birthday.

“Harry will be a fantastic celebrity guest and we know he will be a real inspiration to the kids and adults who attend, given his energetic personality and amazing achievements on and off the track.

“We want to show everyone that no matter what your age or ability, there is a state-of-the-art facility which caters for your needs and interests right here on your doorstep.”

Cllr Steven Watkins, Executive Member for Leisure Services, Central Bedfordshire Council, said: “Flitwick Leisure Centre has been a real asset to the local community over the past decade, helping residents of all ages and abilities to stay active, healthy and connected.

“We are proud to work in partnership with Everyone Active to deliver high-quality leisure facilities and events like this, and the 10th birthday celebrations are a fantastic opportunity for families to come along, try something new and enjoy everything the centre has to offer. Having an athlete of Harry’s calibre involved makes the day even more special and truly inspiring.”
