National Lottery Week: Alex Mayer MP pays tribute to "Unsung Heroes"
The local lorry drivers that keep Britain on the move have been thanked by local MP Alex Mayer ahead of National Lorry Week.
Run by the Road Haulage Association, the tenth National Lorry Week is championing the drivers, shining a spotlight on skills, careers and opportunities in the industry and highlighting the vital role that haulage plays in delivering economic growth.
Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard sits in the Golden Logistics Triangle as Ms Mayer discussed when she recently stopped by family-owned haulage firm Miniclipper Logistics. The local company has its head office in Leighton Buzzard and sites in Houghton Regis and Dunstable.
Miniclipper spoke to the MP about recruiting new drivers, tackling skills shortages and providing more safe and secure parking spaces for existing drivers including how they work with other family run firms so their drivers have safe spaces to rest.

The Government has recently announced a new £14 million package to provide more parking for HGVs, better conditions for drivers and support UK businesses to take advantage of the latest technology.
Alex Mayer MP said: “Apples, Benches or Clothes; or Logs, Medicines or Newspapers - how products get from A to B isn’t something most people think about very often. That is until there are empty shelves, as we witnessed a few years ago. A big thank you to the drivers who play such an important part in keeping our economy moving.”
