A concerned passer-by contacted the RSPCA and rescuers have since taken the foal into the animal welfare charity’s care.

The RSPCA is looking after the colt foal and seeking to speak with the animal’s owner.

RSPCA Inspector Rebecca Benson said: “We are concerned that this foal has been found alone without his mum and we are keen to do all we can to find his owner.

“He is brown in colour and we believe around two to three months old.

“There have been concerns regarding horse theft nationwide, so we are also considering the possibility that he could have been stolen and then abandoned. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

“We are keen to find anyone who is missing a foal or knows who might own him - and would urge them to contact me on the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018, quoting incident number 01833165.”

The RSPCA has chosen not to release any images of the rescued foal at this time.
