It was all aboard for Easter themed fun at Leighton Buzzard Railway

The Biggest Easter Bunny in Bedfordshire worked eggs-tra hard over the weekend handing out chocolate treats to visitors at Leighton Buzzard Railway.

Despite the earlier threat from Storm David the Easter holiday event was a great success with more than 600 people joining in the themed activities at Page’s Park Station.

The Children’s Egg Hunt at Stonehenge Works proved popular with the Easter Bunny kept eggs-tremely busy on each train journey to Page’s Park exchanging plastic eggs for chocolate treats.

Also hidden around Stonehenge Works were Golden Tickets which could be exchanged for a boxed Easter Egg, presented to the children by the railway’s giant Easter Bunny back at Page’s Park. A new attraction for the under fives this year also proved a huge success offering free rides on a miniature railway running in the yard and will be retained for next year.

Rail enthusiasts were also catered for, with demonstration freight trains hauled by heritage diesel locomotives running alongside the passenger trains on the Mundays Hill extension. Featured were five trains hauled by sister engines Doll and Gertrude running from Page’s Park Station to Stonehenge Works.

Spokesperson, Colin Bowles, said: “Our volunteers are now looking forward to the next family event on Sunday, April 19 when our Model Railway Show comes to Page’s Park.

“Ten model railway layouts will be exhibited in the community room, and the engine shed. These include live steam from the Eaton Bray 16mm group,

“Admission is free for railway passengers with a small charge for those who just want to see the models.”

Plans are also under way for the popular Teddy Bear’s Picnic over the May Bank Holiday weekend on Sunday, May 3 and Monday May 4, when children who bring their teddy bears for a day out can travel for free.
