‘Stay Home and Sing’ says Leighton Buzzard’s Advance Theatre Company

A Leighton Buzzard drama group won’t let the coronavirus stop it from performing, and it has released a special video so the community can ‘hear the people sing!’

Due to the crisis, Advance Theatre Company members have been unable to rehearse and perform together as they usually would, so the group has created a virtual chorus called ‘Stay Home and Sing’.

Thirty eight members recorded themselves from over 30 locations, all singing the Les Misérables finale - a song that is dear to them and that they often perform at concerts.

A theatre company spokeswoman said: “The clips were cut together in one video, making us all feel connected through the magic of music.

“Despite the fact we are all social distancing at home, this gave us a chance to be together again (virtually!) and to encourage people to stay home, stay safe and stay strong.

“Our video was created to lift the spirits of those members and the wider community, and to spread the message that ‘even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise’.”

The group can normally be found performing in Leighton Buzzard and its surrounding areas, with all proceeds going to charity.

The spokeswoman added: “We are already planning a ‘together again’ concert, in which we will raise money for charity whilst also celebrating the heroes who are working tirelessly to care for the people of this country.”

The group would like to give a special mention to three members who were unable to take part in the video due to being on the NHS frontline.
