Work starts to keep roads across Central Bedfordshire moving this winter
Preventative road maintenance is being carried out to help keep roads across Central Bedfordshire in good condition for longer.
The first phase of the programme starts tomorrow (October 30) when micro asphalt treatments will be applied to selected roads in readiness for the winter months.
Works are planned on roads including Park Hill in Toddington, Newlands Road in Westoning, Wallace Drive in Eaton Bray and roads in Leighton Buzzard, Houghton Regis and Langford.
Micro asphalt is a preventative maintenance treatment applied over existing road surfaces. It helps seal the carriageway against water damage, improves texture and skid resistance, and can extend the life of a road by up to 10 years.

Temporary road closures will be required during the works to protect road users and the workforce. These will be kept to a minimum, with access maintained wherever possible.
As dry weather is needed for the treatment, some works may need to be postponed at short notice.
Residents in affected areas will receive advance information through letter drops and warning signs.
Cllr Baker, Executive Member for Highways at Central Bedfordshire Council, said: "We're taking action to help protect roads before winter weather can cause more damage. By carrying out this preventative maintenance at the right time, we can help keep roads in good condition for longer, reduce the need for more disruptive repairs in future and make the best use of the money available to maintain our road network.
"While there will be some temporary disruption during the works, micro asphalt can be completed more quickly than full resurfacing, helping us improve roads while keeping Central Bedfordshire moving."
The full programme and further information about micro asphalt, including what residents can expect during the works, is available on the council's website.
