These eight films have been voted the ones people would take to a desert island - is yours here?

Those familiar with the BBC’s Desert Island Discs will know it’s all about eight tracks celebrities would be cast away with on a desert island. But what about the films people would like to be stranded with?

With everyone staying indoors due to lockdown, flat-sharing site SpareRoom surveyed almost 4,000 sharers to discover the nation’s eight favourite Desert Island flix.

The Shawshank Redemption, released in 1984, was the most popular movie to take to a desert island, with the much-loved prison-set classic about dreams of freedom especially relevant in the current climate.

SpareRoom’s survey also found that half of flat-sharers have already watched, or plan on watching their favourite Desert Island Flix during lockdown.Matt Hutchinson, SpareRoom director, said: “Films are a great way to immerse yourself in another world.

“We’re now deep into lockdown. With filming on hold and many major new releases also postponed, this list will hopefully provide some inspiration for what to watch next.”
