Mansell wins a bizarre bet

HATTERS: Former Hatter Lee Mansell was the winner of a bizarre bet with Torquay United team-mate and good friend Kevin Nicholson.

Having once been ridiculed for his lack of goals it led to a bet with left-back that if he scored six goals Nicholson would clean his house naked.

Mansell has netted seven times this season, the same amount as in his first five seasons at Plainmoor, and, as a result, Nicholson made the short trip four doors down to Mansell’s house wearing a little pink pinafore and carrying a feather duster.

Now Torquay captain, Mansell, 29, who started his career at Kenilworth Road, has signed a new next two and a half year deal and is hoping to stay with the Gulls for the rest of his career. He said: “I love the whole place, I’m not shy in saying it either. Everyone knows that I love playing for the club, it’s a brilliant club to play for.”

“But the end of this contract I’ll be 31 going on 32. That’ll take me on to eight years, 10 years is testimonial year and that is something I’d aim for. Personally I’d love to end my time down here and go on and become a coach, maybe even a manager down here in the later years.”
