Throughout the day, local men attended pre‑booked appointments for the simple prostate‑specific antigen (PSA) blood test, an early screening tool that can help identify potential prostate health issues.

Volunteers and staff at The Gables reported a steady flow of attendees and expressed their gratitude to everyone who made the effort to book a slot and come along.

The organisers emphasised that those who were unable to secure an appointment today should remember they can still request the PSA blood test directly from their GP if they have any concerns. Early testing and awareness remain vital in supporting men’s health and improving outcomes.

The significance of today’s event was felt even more keenly following the sad announcement this morning of the passing of broadcaster Dermot Murnaghan(68), who died from stage 4 prostate cancer. His loss serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of early detection and regular health checks. RiP.

The Bedfordshire Freemasons confirmed that the PSA testing initiative will return to The Gables in the future, with further dates and details to be announced.

Their ongoing commitment to community wellbeing continues to play an important role in supporting local residents.

The Bedfordshire Freemasons extend their sincere thanks to everyone who took part and helped make today’s event such a meaningful success.
